The Age Run Melbourne 2013RITB Half Marathon or 10K Training Program
For those of you who wish to enter The Age Run Melbourne on Sunday, 27th July 2013, Running in the Burbs has put together a RITB Run Melbourne Training Program for the 10K or Half Marathon events.  We have also created a "Running in the Burbs" team.  Please, visit The Age Run Melbourne website (www.runmelbourne.com.au) to enter our RITB team or view additional event information, training programs and useful training tips.  To complement the RITB Run Melbourne Training Program 14-week schedule we will offer the following training sessions to keep you motivated in coming weeks, and hopefully help you achieve your 2013 running goals:

WEEKLY TRAINING SCHEDULE – WINTER 2013
Monday Evening Group Runs - 6:30pm @ Aqualink Nunawading (Forrest Hill, Mel 62 F7)
Tom Nebl will coordinate 6-14K group runs along well-lit footpaths in the Vermont/ Forrest Hill/ Blackburn area.  There is no better way to start the week than to catch up with your running buddies on Monday night and gradually build up strength and endurance along the way …
Wednesday Evening Quality Sessions - 6:30pm @ Waverley Park (Wheelers Hill, Mel 80 J3)
Sonia Foley who will take you through a 14-week program of interval, fartlek or hill sessions.  A great way to mix it up, stay motivated, improve your stamina, and get fitter week by week!

Wednesday Evening Track Sessions - 7:00pm @ Bill Steward Aths Trk (East Burwd, Mel 62 C7)
Lee Bonardi welcomes RITB members who can’t make it to Sonia’s sessions to join his track sessions with the Nunawading Triathlon Club.  These sessions are guaranteed to increase your stamina and speed!
Saturday Morning Marathon Training Runs - 7:15am @ Jells Park (Wheelers Hill, Mel 71 K7)
With training for the 2013 Gold Coast Marathon in full swing, there will be a regular Marathon Training Group starting their long (25-35K) group runs with a 10-12K ‘warm-up’ before joining the regular 8:15am group. The 7:15 start also seems to suit a number of mums and dads who need to head off early due to family commitments.

Saturday Morning HM/ 10K Training Runs - 8:15am @ Jells Park (Wheelers Hill, Mel 71 K7)
Runners training for The Age Run Melbourne will meet at 8:15 and segregate into Half Marathon or 10K Training Groups.  Depending on your goal distance, our experienced run leaders will take you on medium (15-25K) or short (7-15K) group runs following the RITB Half Marathon or 10K training schedules.  We will break up into different groups that cater for all abilities in a safe, friendly and mutually supportive atmosphere.
SPECIAL TRAINING SESSIONS                  
ANZAC Day Excursion (Thursday, April 25) - 7:15am or 8:15am @ East Malvern (Mel 69 A1)
Meet at East Malvern Railway Station for a 24K long run starting 7:15am, or an 8-16K group run along Gardiner’s Creek starting at 8:15am, followed by coffee and ANZAC day biscuits for breakfast for those who are keen.
Hill Running Technique Session (Saturday, April 27th) - 7:15am @ Jells Park (Mel 71 K7) 
Many members will leave early to take part at the RITB Yarra Valley Winery Tour on April 27th.  To accommodate this, we will meet at 7:15am for a special one-hour Hill Running Technique Session provided by experienced running coach Simon Watson.  Perfect for those planning to race Puffing Billy the following week!

RITB Beginner Runner's 5-10K Training Program

Would you like to join our group, but are afraid you may not be able to keep up?  Do you have family members or friends who want to get into running?  Have you lost your mojo and want it back?  If you want to challenge yourself and get in shape for summer, Running in the Burbs can help you.
Our 5-10K Beginner Runner’s Program will be suitable for anyone who wants to start running and can jog for around 15-30 minutes with walking breaks. The schedule commences at Jells Park on Saturday, 20th October 2012.  It’s a simple, progressive 8-week training plan that will help you build from a walk to a run.  By the end, you will be ready to run 5-10K at a slow, relaxed pace without stopping and participate at Emma & Tom’s Christmas Run on Wednesday, 5th December 2012. The first three sessions are free, and we will ask casual participants to make a small contribution ($2/session) on subsequent visits.  So, come along and give it a try ...

Sunday Trail Running Excursion - September 30 
 
This Sunday's excursion run is around Port Melbourne and will include some bay views and also a bit of a teaser of the first part of the full and half marathon course including St Kilda Rd and Albert Park.  Being a Sunday excursion run the pace will be leisurely with drink stops along the way.

  •  WHERE: Palm Beach Hut on Beaconsfield Parade at the intersection of Johnston Street (Melway Ref 57 C4)
  •  WHEN: 8:15am for 8.30am (sharp) start
  •  DISTANCES: 10-16km
  •  We will finish off with a dip in the bay and coffee at Palm Beach Hut for those that are keen ...

Sunday Trail Running Excursion - September 09

If you’re looking for a change of scenery or haven’t managed a Saturday run in a while, come along to this Sunday’s RITB run excursion. City bound, we will snake along Gardiners Creek trail for a leisurely 12 -15km run. If you are wanting to do a little more or even a little less, this out and back run is ideal to join your running buddies.
  •  WHERE: meet at Malvern East Train Station (Melway Ref 69 B2)
  •  WHEN: 8:15am for 8.30am start
  •  DISTANCES: 12-15km out-and-back along Gardiners Creek
  • Coffee at Coffee Club Chadstone afterwards for those that are keen ...

Running in the Burbs uniforms ready to order now!

 

The Running in the Burbs Committee is very excited to announce our new range of 2XU custom designed RITB running T-shirts and singlets for the 2012/13 seasons.
With the Melbourne Marathon Festival fast approaching, we would love to have as many members and casual runners as possible training and racing in our fashionable club colours. On October 14, we wish to cheer all of our members on as they finish their 10K, half or full marathon of the hallowed turf of the MCG … proudly wearing our RITB uniform!
 Deadline for submission of uniform order forms and payment no later than Saturday 11th August.
 To purchase a RITB running T-shirt and/or singlet, please:
  • Download our Uniform Order Form, Size Guide and check out Uniform Artwork.
  • The Uniform Order Form needs to be completed and submitted to Sonia Foley or via email to uniforms@runningintheburbs.org.au
  • Payment to be made prior to the 11th August via EFT or cash (Please, refer to our bank details listed on our Uniform Order Form)
  • Members will receive a discount off two garments purchased during the 2012/13 seasons (Please, check the details on our Uniform Order Form).
